1st XI Cricket advance after winning regional Gillette Cup final against Christ’s College
The regional Gillette Cup final took place on Wednesday the 30th of October at Hagley Oval’s Nursery Ground, with CBHS facing off against Christ’s College.
Captain Callum Samson won the toss and chose to bat first. Christ’s started strong, taking two early wickets and keeping the run rate low. However, Year 11 Todd Williams and Samson built a solid partnership to kickstart the innings. On a challenging pitch, every batsman contributed, helping the team reach a competitive score with disciplined batting.
CBHS finished on 170/9 after 50 overs.
Opening bowlers Samson and Forrest were exceptional during the first power play. Forrest bowled fast, claiming two wickets, while Samson’s precise bowling led to a crucial run-out, leaving College at 4/14 after 7 overs. College then put together a few partnerships to stabilize their innings, only to face another run-out from Samson and a strategic wicket taken by leg-spinner Corbyn McClurg, bringing College to 97/6 by the 27th over.
College opener Kavya Shukla remained a threat, reaching his half-century, but Cameron Jones (2/23) and McClurg (3/6) bowled brilliantly to build pressure. McClurg trapped Shukla LBW, and a third run-out from Samson sealed the game.
Christ’s College was all out for 123 in 37.5 overs.
The team showed resilience and fought hard under pressure, preparing them well for the National Finals in December, where they’ll defend their title.
Congratulations to Captain Callum, Coaches Rob Smith, Denis Aberhart, Nick Cooke, and the entire team. Best of luck in December!
