Mike Boomer

Mike began his teaching career at Shirley Boys’ High School in 2001 after graduating from Massey University (majoring in History) and the New Zealand Graduate School of Education (Diploma in Teaching). He joined Christchurch Boys in 2007 as Head of English. Mike has coached football and also managed teams in water polo, tennis, basketball, and futsal. Mike has also been our Specialist Classroom Teacher leading professional development, literacy projects, and was at the forefront of designing our COVID response in 2020.

His move into the senior leadership team occurred in 2018. He is passionate about boys’ education and takes particular enjoyment when our young men succeed and develop, seeing them become fathers, husbands, partners, and successful contributors to our community as they continue to grow beyond school life.

Mike is married with two children, all of whom are nurses, including his son who attended Boys High from 2014 to 2018. Having taken a year’s refreshment leave in 2023, Mike is looking forward to bringing new energy, insights, and perspectives to the leadership team.
