Nigel Vernon
Born in the UK, Nigel was schooled in various countries around the world until settling in Whangarei in 1981 to complete his secondary education. Graduating from Waikato University with a Bachelor of Social Science and a Diploma of Teaching from Auckland Teachers College, Nigel has since completed a Diploma of Sports Studies at Otago University. He is currently studying part-time across Canterbury and Victoria Universities completing a range of educational papers.
His teaching background includes over 20 years teaching experience both in New Zealand, the United Kingdom and International schools in Japan, Kuwait, Qatar and Thailand. Past positions of responsibility have included Head of Humanities, Head of Department and Head of Key Stage 3, Year 8 and 11. He has also been a Boarding Master at Palmerston North Boy’s High and New Plymouth Boy’s High School.
Nigel is interested in sport, having played at a national junior level at squash and since then has played football, rugby, and in recent years completed several full ironman and half ironman triathlons, marathons and other endurance type events.
“Unlocking a boys potential” is an area that Nigel is passionate about. He believes strongly that having that all-important “dream weaver” to recognise and nurture the boys throughout their schooling, will create lifelong learners. Nigel is married with two children.
