Message from Headmaster about recent media on the Christchurch Secondary Education Network
Dear Parents and Caregivers
You may have seen an article in the Press today regarding changes to enrolment zones. The Ministry of Education have been undertaking work on creating a sustainable education network in Christchurch. The Ministry has undertaken this work in conjunction with the Canterbury West Coast Secondary Principals Association and NZSTA and as part of the process have engaged KPMG to consult with schools and develop some recommendations. A media statement from the Principals Association is here.
The media statement and case for change refer to schools agreeing not to enrol students over their agreed capacity and a dual layer approach for secondary schools. This means that Christchurch Boys' High School would continue to endeavour to limit its roll to our agreed build roll (which is 1300 domestic students) and that all students within the Christchurch Boys' High School zone would have the opportunity to attend a co-educational school (students at co-educational schools will not necessarily have this same opportunity to attend a single sex school).
There are no current plans to change the Christchurch Boys' High School zone.
The process of this review is ongoing and the Board is committed to consulting with its community as it is required to do under the Education Act.
Headmaster (on behalf of the CBHS Board of Trustees)
