Kiwi dual gold medallist Laurence Pithie turns heads at world junior track cycling championships

19 August 2019

Kiwi dual gold medallist Laurence Pithie turns heads at world junior track cycling championships.

Chucking in cross-country running for cycling four years ago was a wise move for Laurence Pithie.

The 17-year-old Cantabrian looks destined for a bright future after a stellar showing at the UCI junior track cycling world championships in Frankfurt (Oder) on the Germany-Poland border. With two gold medals draped around his neck and wearing his first-place rainbow jersey, Pithie couldn't wipe the smile from his face as he touched down in Christchurch on Wednesday.

Greeted to a stirring haka from his Christchurch Boys' High schoolmates, he was still coming to terms with first place finishes in the omnium (which features four events over one day) and the madison (two-rider relay event) with Taupo's Kiaan Watts.

South Island Secondary School U15 7's

22 March 2018

The U15 CBHS team played five games over the two days. Day one we played three games and had 101 points for and 0 against. Day two we played Ashburton College in the semi-final, the game was tight ending up in a 12-all draw which forced the game into a golden point. The golden point only lasted a few minutes after a try in the corner from Jack Rodgers moved us to the final against Nelson College. The game vs Nelson College was close like the semi, we had some tough calls with the referee including a penalty try extending Nelson's lead to 10-12. In the dying minutes of the game, Caleb Murphy created a gap and scored under the sticks for the win to be named as the "South Island Champions".
